A dividend is the cash a company pays its shareholders for each share they own, and the dividend yield is that payment as a percentage of the share price. Each row pairs a dividend per share with the split-adjusted closing price on its ex-dividend date, the first day a new purchaser is no longer entitled to that payment; the yield divides the dividend by that same-day close, never today's price. A higher yield means more cash paid per dollar of share price for that single payment. The annual view adds up the payments in each year and shows the latest yield.
